Font & Image Licensing: Don’t Get Caught Out By Unlicensed Assets

 

It’s incredibly easy to download a font or image and assume it’s free to use. But licensing rules still apply and with AI-powered crawlers actively scanning the web, copyright breaches are being picked up faster than ever. That surprise invoice for historic usage? Not a fun way to spend your marketing budget.

 

Here's what you can do:

  • Fonts: Confirm whether they’re genuinely free or require a commercial licence.

  • Images: Make sure you own them, have commissioned them, or have written permission from the photographer (including required credits).

  • Tourism libraries: Get approved access to your national and regional tourism body visual libraries.
  • Stock libraries: Use reputable paid platforms such as Adobe Stock, iStock or Canva that provide a clear licence. 
  • Keep records: Retain proof of purchase or licence agreements.

It’s a small admin task to protect your brand, your budget and your peace of mind.
